Principal's Message

Welcome back to another exciting year at Oxford-on-Rideau Public School!
It is wonderful to be back in Oxford Mills for the 2023-2024 school year and I am thankful to have the opportunity to lead the teaching and learning here and to share the learning journey with your children.  The beginning of school is an exciting time of year and I feel both pleased and excited to welcome students, parents and community members to Oxford-on-Rideau PS.  Whether you are new to our school or returning for another year; whether you are a student or a parent; or whether you are a volunteer or another contributing member of our school community, we encourage you to make the most of your time here with us.  As well, we extend an especially warm welcome to our new families!

Our school community places such a strong emphasis on the academic, social, and emotional development of children.  Learning is at the heart of all that we do. We strongly believe in learning for all children and in all children being successful. You will no doubt have your children talk to you over the next week about the “Oxford Way”:   being good to each other; always doing their best; being respectful; playing hard, playing fair, and nobody hurt; valuing learning; and have fun in a safe supportive environment.

Our learning this year will be embedded in the important work of these five Cs:

COMMUNICATION,  COUNTING, CURIOUSITY, and CONNECTION.

These strategic priorities build on our school improvement and equity plan and are aligned with the director’s work plan and the Board Improvement Plan for the UCDSB.  More information and details on these four strategic areas will be forthcoming throughout the year.

You will notice that there was some extensive work done to the exterior of our school over the summer.   You will see a new shade structure, new sod, play structure base materials, and accessibility upgrades.  Most notably the new asphalt surfaces (parking lot and play surfaces) were completed.  The upgrades also included new lighting and “soon-to-come” electronic signage.  Thank you to our office administrator, custodian, teachers, and educational assistant who have have spent time and energy preparing for your arrival. The classrooms and school look great!

I look forward to personally welcoming you all over the next weeks and months as we work together to ensure success for each of our students.  We are also very excited to meet with your kids and listen to all the stories of their summer adventures.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at the school (613) 258-3141.
